So a couple months ago, Radiohead turned the industry on its head or whatever by releasing their new album on the internet for a you-name-it donation price. I do think that that was an incredibly bold move and an insanely cool thing to do. Don't know if you knew this, but it was not their idea at all. It was a publicity stunt thought up by management, which was only shoved into our face even more when the band signed with a new label. They then released the album in a few separate editions, one of them being the Discbox edition. This one pissed me off. It's vinyl version of the album with a bunch of extra artwork, that's cool. It also comes with the CD version of the album including a bonus CD with extra tracks. This is the only edition of the album you can buy with the extra tracks. No digital download, no 2-CD set without the vinyl. It's either the Discbox edition, or go fuck yourself. How much is the Discbox edition?--Oh, only £40, which translates roughly into about $80. What a shitty thing to do to the fans who want to hear as much music as possible without being raped out of their money. I'm glad that they did what they did with the donation thing, but fuck them for giving the proverbial middle finger to the die hard fans, who are the only ones who are going to buy this edition. I bought the normal edition for $11.95, and I got the bonus tracks for $0.00. So fuck 'em.
Honestly, the bonus tracks are really good, just not $80 good.
